A captain’s inning

It’s an answer to the article written for Maharaja’s……many doubts were raised if we are really winning or it’s just by fluke…..NILOY U ROCK MAN…

Words won’t be enough to praise the inning you played….You lead the team from front…we had been bowling well but we were not able to click with our bat and I am sure after seeing your inning everyone in the team would have gained a lot of confidence within themselves….

We were missing some of our star players, Vijay, Manish and Girish however we didn’t felt their absence……We found great replacement for them
Himanshu was great behind the wickets and Ravi with his line, length and pace just
made it too easy for us …..
It seemed as they are our regular players which they are not…..

We don’t depend on any particular player to make us win the match however I am sure the team would agree Niloy alone gave us this win….

For the first time in 7 matches we had to defend the score and Sandeep gave us the perfect start by hitting a huge six of the 3 rd ball of the inning which scratched the opponents and the tone was set……..

Though we lost our first wicket in the second over however we were going good on runs and Amit walked in but it was not his day with the bat and he got out without troubling the scorer.
Sandeep was the third wicket to fall and then walked in the hero of the match “NILOY” with our Mr. Dependentable “Vikas” and from them they just took the match under control and started dictating terms with some good running between the wickets and hard hitting.

At the end of 10 over’s we were 42/3 and the main part of NILOY’S inning was yet to come…two huge sixes one over mid wicket and the other over mid off to their best bowler..

For me the lofted shot over mid-off was the Shot of the Match….walking 2 steps and timing it over mid off….the whole match was about NILOY’S batting and the partnership between him and Vikas.I could only say the players who were rested in this match missed a inning which they could have remembered for their whole life….
NILOY I don’t think you need to see the ball from bowlers hand from now on bcoz you don’t need it….

Than it was left to our bowlers to get us through the finishing line and our bowlers didn’t let the team down….We bundled them for mere 31….

It has always been the opening bowlers who have given us a break through in the very first over and it was no different this time….Though Amit was not able to do anything with the bat but he made sure he gives the team a flier with his bowling….The last ball of his first over got their best batsman caught behind and what a catch himanshu…..

The bowl took the inner edge of the bat and himanshu dived to his wrong side to take the best catch of the match and that started the downfall of our opponents but that was not it ….Sandeep had some other idea to claim the best catch of the match ….It would be really difficult to differentiate between those amazing catches…

Ravi I guess was playing almost after a year and the immaculate line he was bowling was difficult to play as a result he got 2 wickets…Our steady bowlers Vikas and Abhishek went for a few runs but still they bowled a great line….

This was a commanding performance by our team to finish a strong opponent…..

From here there is no looking back …..

  1. I gotta agree. Niloy played a wonderful inning today. This is highest total in cricbay history. I was very happy to see him hit the shots with power today rather than flicking :), which he used to initially. But lately, his game has changed a lot. Consistency has increased, he's playing power shots, and is good with his strike rate too. Overall, it was a treat to watch today. Thanks Niloy.

  2. I missed Nilu's batting. I saw Maharaja's bowling. Great attack and other team has no answer. Also Niloy should get credit with his strong captainship and amazing field setting. I agree with Anoop, all our player are playing great regardless if they don't play regular.

  4. Hats off to Niloy and Vikas today. Their partnership (close to 50?) defined the match. And Niloy provided the perfect finish with his sixes.

Our defense started in style as well- the first two catches were blinders by Himanshu and Sandeep. And as always our bowling and fielding were spot on.

    Go Maharajas!

  5. Our battle cry has changed from "Nirmal Anand" to "Play hard, or go home!".

Awesome performance guys! Nilu! Hai! Hai! Good to see Vikas, Himanshu, Ravi back in action.

Thanks for the match summary Anoop.

  6. We have always been a good bowling side with the ability to defend any total however meager, in a ground however open.
Yesterday though, the total wasn't the challenge, neither was the ground. Sigman is always a low scoring ground.

But the way our bowlers bowled seemed like they had promised their mom's a 'cricketing' mother's day gift. They just went for the kill from the word go.. 'Nirmal Anand' gaya tel lene (Pure Joy went to fetch oil)!!

It was as if they needed to wrap up everything quickly to go call their moms before they go to sleep in the Indian sub-continent. And, everyone in the field supported them in their noble goal...

Having said that, yesterday's win is more thanks to our batting. We showed our batting is to be reckoned with -
    - when we started our scoring with a huge effortless six over square leg
    - when we hit their best bowler over mid-off for a six
    - when we kept our scoring momentum despite losing wickets
    - when we did not change our batting order even when we lost quick wicktes
    - when everyone played a chanceless knock
    - when we scored 87 on sigman
    - etc. etc.

So, bowlers, you guys are great.. but batters are right there with u!! :-)

    Lets keep rocking, Maharajas!!!
